One memory that I have retained from childhood is seeing Tron in a drive-in theatre. I don't remember a lot of it, just that I did see it there. When D and I heard that Tron:Legacy was coming out, we agreed that it was the type of movie best seen in large format instead of at home.
We rented Tron to refresh our memories (one of us even stayed awake during the 2-hour documentary afterward). It was pretty obvious that they were way ahead of their time with the original film and we knew the sequel would be visually stunning. We debated whether to spring for IMAX 3D or regular 3D, mostly because we haven't yet patronized the new IMAX theatre in town, but then I won a Regal gift certificate at work so that made the IMAX a hard sell.
This morning was cold and wet and it was a great day to be inside - a perfect time from Tron. I thought the regular 3D was perfectly fine, so I didn't regret our decision not to see it in IMAX. The Regal's 3D glasses fit me much better than the Camelot's did, something to remember in the future. We both enjoyed the film very much. I really liked the electronic score. Daft Punk was a very fitting choice for the material and it was awesome in theater surround sound. Michael Sheen's performance was fantastic, but then again, the man rarely disappoints me.
