Well, it's past 1PM and I am still in my PJs!
It took a lot of effort to get me to the point of working from home. But I'm told that the boss man doesn't usually give VPN phones to "contractors" so I'm honored that he did so. D did so much work, he crawled under the house and installed a line so that my phone could hook to the internet router.
I think 'phone' is too simple a word for it, it's too complex. The programing was a nightmare, it's more like a super-computer.
The only downside? A mad cat. She doesn't like that I'm occupying her chair. We have a battle royale every time I get up.

Yesterday D and I came home from work and as we approached the door we heard the strangest sound. It was two large tomcats, one black-and-white and a ginger, on the other side of our fence. They were obviously feral, wouldn't let me get anywhere close but I did manage to get this picture. We opened the door and, as is her usual custom, Elora was right there trying to sneak a look at the outside world. I told her those boys were too big and too mean for her and she couldn't date them.

A year ago today, we adopted Elora. It's been fun watching her make her niche in our household which is, of course, at the very top. Yes, "Runt" has grown into the princess D named her for and she rules us all in the strictest fashion.

Mom sent us the sweetest card (thanks Mom) and who better to remember how special an adoption is than her. I'm hoping to introduce Elora and Mom to each other this year.
Elora considers the bed as her personal dais

This cartoon I saw today epitomizes what my relationship with Elora has been like over the past week or so.
I don't know if it's the phase of the moon or what, but she is absolutely crazy. She meows in my face, she licks me, she nips at my arms - all before 5AM in the morning! There's been a lot of chasing her down the hallway and shutting the bedroom door and re-setting the alarm clock for later. I'm looking forward to vacation next week, just to catch up on my Zs.

Elora has taken to sitting in my chair. Constantly. She has inhabited it, possessed it. It's my chair. I don't even share that chair with BBL or LRL when they come over. I'm not even sure if I let Mom sit in it while she was here. And yet, here is Elora in my chair. What a queen bee!
It's usually not an issue at breakfast because by then she is eating at her own dish, or she's gone to look out the newly-opened bedroom window. I think she takes consolation that if I'm sitting in the chair, at least I'll have her black and white hairs on my butt all day long!

I had to take the flash off because she closed her eyes every time the light came on the camera. Having the flash off makes for some interesting photos!

Well, Elora has taken full possession of my (former) side of the headboard. Nearly every night she would knock something off onto my head until I finally got the message and shuffled everything over to the center. Now she sleeps there, squirrel-watches there and generally holds court there. She lets us know her displeasure if the sun comes up and the blinds are not opened quickly enough. She is living up to her princess namesake - we have all become her loyal subjects.

The nice thing about having another lady in the house is that we get to do girly things.... like buy jewelry and do our nails. Today we bought Elora's ID tag. We also installed Soft Claws on her nails. We are not losing another couch to the pets! This batch is clear but next time we might get colored ones.

Elora misses her siblings. She called for them all night long - we didn't get much quality rest last night. She is a cat in constant motion and she's very difficult to photograph! This morning we took pictures of her siblings to the vet's office and she had her annual shots. The Doc says she's in good health.

We drove all the way out to Powdersville tonight and spent 90 minutes getting acquainted with the five cats. The small assertive one was definitely that. She hissed at me a few times and only really warmed up to D towards the end. It turns out the short-haired one wasn't so big after all, it was just the way the picture was taken. She is quite friendly so we chose her. She's orange and black and has white on her neck and chest. She's 3.5 years old. Her given name was Runt. That definitely had to change. All of our pets have been named for literary references. We have decided to call her Elora after the princess in Willow and The Chronicles of the Shadow War. Tonight we are letting her get acclimated to the house. We think this is the first time she's been away from her siblings so it's a big adjustment. Will post some pictures tomorrow.
